Sri Lankan Delight Tour 10 days/9 nights

Sri lanka is known for its splendour and new life experiences ranging from mouth-watering delicacies to its extraordinary culture and glamorous festivals.

Day 1: Arrive in Negombo.
Begin your Sri Lanka tour by being met on arrival at Colombo International Airport with private transfer to your hotel in Negombo Beach. Negombo was used by the Portuguese, Dutch and British as main export harbor for cinnamon and is conveniently located only 15 km from the airport.

Enjoy a cold drink as you watch the old world fishing crafts like the outrigger canoes and the catamarans haul their catch.  Take a stroll along the Indian Ocean and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Day 2: Sigiriya
Your journey begins through some of Sri Lanka’s most scenic countryside. Perhaps the most striking sight on Sri Lanka, Sigiriya is a 600-foot-high pinnacle of rock rising out of the jungle. One of the island’s seven World Heritage Sites, Sigiriya is famous for the ancient fortress on its summit and for the ancient frescoes that adorn the walls. If you wish, climb to the top and take in the lake-studded countryside stretching for miles in every direction from the top.

Continue to drive up-country to Kandy. En route visit a Ceylon Spice Garden and Batik Factory.

Day 3-4: Kandy
Kandy is the home of traditional Sri Lankan culture and famous for the temple that houses a sacred tooth rescued from the Buddha’s funeral pyre in 543 B.C. Visit the Temple Of Tooth and continue to the venue where a Sri Lankan cultural performace takes place. Witness this colourful and entertaining event as well as a demonstration of fire walking.

Drive along the Upper Lake Road for a great panoramic view of the Kandy Lake and surrounding area.  Other sites of interest include the Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, with its collection of rare tropical, exotic and indigenous flora or the famous Kandy Marketplace.

Day 5-6: Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage and Ella
Leave Kandy for Pinnawela and visit Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage near Kegalle. Here you can see the baby elephants being fed. After feeding escort them on foot to the nearby river for their morning bath.

Continue on to the cool and refreshing climate of Sri Lanka’s highlands.  Stroll through lush tea plantations and visit a Ceylon Tea Factory on a working tea estate. At the tea factory follow the process of making Ceylon Tea from plucking of the green leaves to packaging of the tea, mainly meant for the export market.

Other of the places you may visit are the Ella Gap, Ravana Ella Falls, Little Adam’s Peak and Bambaragala Peak. There are many varied pleasant walks with stunning scenery.

Day 7: Tissa
The drive from Ella to Tissa (the base for forays into Yala National Park) is stunning.  Lush valley, rice paddies, and waterfalls make it a trip to remember.  Arrive in Tissamaharama and prepare for an early morning safari in Yala National Park.

Day 8: Yala
Wake before dawn to embark on one of the highlights of any trip to Sri Lanka- -a safari in Yala National Park.  Yala is well recognized as one of the best parks in the world to observe and photograph leopards.  There is also a substantial elephant population along with Spotted deer, Sambar, Wild buffalo, Sloth bear, Jackal, Mongoose, Pangolins and Crocodiles. In addition, there are over 120 bird species found in the park.
